Money is being left on the table by builders everywhere!

A brief outline of how your company and your clients may benefit by including window treatments in the price of a new home.

Option 1

Create an allowance for window treatments

The best and simplest way to provide a great service for your client while creating profit for your company is to create an allowance for window treatments as you already have for appliances, flooring, light fixtures, etc. and  make Atlanta Blind & Shade, Inc. your vendor of choice for this service.  The term “window treatments” for our purpose here refers to “hard window coverings” such as blinds, shades, plantation shutters, window tinting, and retractable screens.  We carry only “hard window coverings”.  This would be explained to your customer in the allowance exhibit.

Example:

Create an allowance for window treatments based on the size of the home and the number of windows.  Your customer meets with one of our representatives at the house and selects the window treatments they desire.  If they stay under within the allowance they can use the balance toward other allowances.  If they go over the limit then they would be personally responsible for the overage.  This allowance will be a part of your cost for building the home and would be subject to your regular margin whatever it may be.  As an example, assume you have a larger home with 30+ windows and you create an allowance of $5,000.00 and your margin is 20%, then your profit would be $1,250.00 ($5,000.00/ .80 = $6,250.00 - $5,000.00 = $1,250.00)

As an added bonus for your company, we will also pay an extra 5% as a thank you on the amount of the overage.  Again using the example above, if your customer’s purchase is $10,000.00, you would receive the initial profit of $1,250.00 on the $5,000.00 allowance and another $250.00 on the overage.  That’s a total of $1,500.00 profit for your company.  $1,500.00 that you are currently not receiving!

We will endeavor to install all the treatments prior to closing. All of our products, with the exception of plantation shutters, can be turned around in two weeks or less.  Plantation shutters require 3-5 weeks for most applications and 6-8 weeks for very special applications such as arch-tops and two-tone paint/stain options.  We have also created programs for builders who want to have only a few products available such as wood blinds, faux-wood blinds, mini blinds, etc. with set pricing for the entire house.  We pre-measure all the different home designs and have a preset price for each product for each floor plan.

Of course, we will fully warrant all of our products for as long as the original purchaser owns the home.  Your company would not be liable for any warranty issues.  This will be outlined in the allowances exhibit of the contract and/or your vendor agreement.

Other details such as deposits, final payments, overages, and accountability of funds will be detailed in a vendor’s agreement between our companies.

Option 2

As a convenience to your customer

Of course if you would just like to provide a convenient and reliable service to your customers, you can simply refer them to us for their window coverings needs and that’s it.  We are more than happy to give you a referral fee for this service.  We realize this is not as monetarily profitable for you, however; it does create further rapport with your customer.
